I'm Back

Well, back from Florida and the rain didn't follow us. The weather was pretty good the whole trip, although much warmer and humid than I was prepared for. Not sure I could handle living in Florida, too hot for me.

The race was good. I posted some photos on Trifuel. Still need to save up for a camera upgrade. Many of the other shots came out a bit out of focus. Anyway Matt did well considering he's nursing a bit of a hip injury from the the Bend Over ride. He'll post his race report later today.

Even though I didn't race, I'm absolutely exhausted. Walking around in the sun all day on race day followed by 2 days at Disney parks with my little sister and rest of the family. After the flight home yesterday I've come down with a cold or flu or something. Tired and achy. Trying to catch up on work the next couple of days.

I'm not much of an amusement park guy. Some of the rollercoaster type stuff was fun, but the shows and cost of Disney is crazy. Like $60-$100 per day. Anyway, must have gained 5 pounds with all the eating out and crap I ate at the parks. Only ran one day while out there as well. Have a bit of training catch up to do. Good thing is the weather here was awesome yesterday and today, so hopefully I'll kick this Bug and get out on the bike Saturday and maybe a run tomorrow.

Well, back to work.

I also have to call back the sublimation guy about Trifuel jerseys. I think I'll be going with plain white TYR tritops and have a trifuel logo sublimated on them. Hopefully more on this in the next couple days.

Leaving Rainy Oregon, Heading to Sunny Florida

Or am I? Weather in Florida is calling for thunderstorms while the weekend here is supposed to be sunny. Doesn't that just figure :)

Oh well, what you going to do, complain? No, I'm going to Florida, watching what will no oubt be a good race, visiting family, and taking in a theme park or two. Should be fun, for me…

Streatly on the othe rhand is pissed and scared. I love my dog, but he's a bit of a wimp. Freaked out at the vet the other day when I took him in for a check-up and to update his Bortatella shot for boarding this week. Just dropped him off at the Pet Resort, and he was nervous and not happy at all. He bolted off running away down the street. Not something he normally does. At least there were a bunch of dogs there hanging out in the outside play area. I opted to get him two 30 minute group play sessions, so hopefully he'll find some new friends and not stress out too much.

Vizsla's are great dogs, but need lots of attention and can be a bit nuerotic.

The good thing as well is I didn't have to book a kennel 6 months in advance, which I've had to do back in Norcal - crazy. And the price up here is $13/night instead of the $30/night I paid in the Bay Area. An extra $6 bucks for the play sessions but still much cheaper.

30 minute trail run after I dropped Streatley off. Now time to pack and et ready for the early rise and long flight.

Rain Again? In Sunny CO?

Yes it was rainy again today. The weather, quite frankly, has sucked since February. It cleared up around noonish but you never know when it's going to come back. Weather here can change without much warning. So, after a great weekend ride outdoors I ended up back on the trainer today. 60 minute ride while watching Punk'd.

Yes, the TV is in and I've had it on too much. Nice to catch up on the NBA playoffs and the Giro on the weekends, but it's kinda on as I work nights. Need to just cut it and start reading more. Plan is to change up my routine after Florida this weekend. Set TV time, Work Time (computer time), Training Time, Reading time, etc. And try to stick with it. No more long hours and weekends working. Time to cut back, be more focused, and get a bit more serious.

May have picked up a new regular client gig that would allow me to quit the day job (with some creative budget juggling) and just work on my projects and a couple projects for a handful of clients. We'll see, a little nervous to pull the trigger but it needs to be done if I really want to get somewhere in the long run. Short term a little risky, but better long term opportunities.

Three Five Hard Run

Thirty-five minute hard run tonight. Drove out to the trails to run with Matt and Streatley. Went out pretty hard and maintained a high heart rate for the duration of the run. Partly due to a faster pace trying to keep up with Matt a bit and partly because I'm just slow :)

Streatley had a hard run as well. He'd keep running up to Matt and then back to me. When Matt decided to turn in early I kept going and tried to get Streatley to follow me. He did, but then kept sprinting back to see why Matt wasn't coming. Then sprint back up to me. I think he exhausted himself because he was dog tired after only 35 minutes. Unusual for him, and now he's limping around. So he's either sore and out of shape - or he sprained something sprinting back and forth. He's in no pain so I'm sure he'll be o.k.

Hike and Fly

Didn't get my run in today, instead took the dog for a hike and my
brother out to some river's to Fly Fish. Pretty nice out by the river's
even though it was overcast most of the day. Streatley hates being on
leash, and I hate having him on leash so it's a little frustrating on
the "Leash Only" trails. But when he's off he loves hunting around and
swimming in the river.

We all had a good few hours out there, although Matt didn't catch anything.

Saturday Ride

Off the trainer and on the road. The rain has finally stopped and this fair weather rider got off the trainer and hit the road. Great ride. Really beautiful up here. I'm looking forward to get some great rides in this year and really improving my bike.

The terrain here is quite rolling. Seems flat driving around but when your on the bike your realize how hilly it is. Perfect for me because it's a lot of sit in the saddle and climb long gradual inclines. That's always been my weak point on the bike - climbing. I could hold my own amongst my competitors and ride buddies on the flats, but always got dropped or passed on the inclines, even the slightest of inclines, only to catch them again on the flats. This rolling terrain will definitely make me stronger. While there were a lot of hills in the East Bay it seemed steeper, shorter ups and downs - not long steady work.

There's a little out and back by my place that gets little traffic and is about 9 miles to the end of the road. It's pretty much a steady gradual climb the whole way out - and then you fly coming in. Did that at the end of my ride. About a 20 minute effort for me to get to the 7 mile mark.

Total ride time today was 2:20. Have to get a new battery for my cyclometer, but would guess maybe only 35-40 miles. Certainly not as long as I need to be out there but felt good none the less. The riding out here is also better because a 2:20 ride is actually 2:20 of constant pedaling. There are basically no stop signs or stop lights on today's ride. Everything is open roads and any junctions are round-abouts so you can just merge right in and keep going. Back home (0ld home) 2:20 would probably be 2 of actual ride time as lots of stop lights and more traffic.

Anyway, really excited and enjoying the riding out here.

Friday the 13th

Maybe it's the unluckyness of the day or just a long week catching up with me, but it's been a fairly unproductive day. I did get my 40 minute run in this morning, but then spent a good portion of the afternoon trying to fix the wireless modem that quit on me. Got it working again but not sure how.

Did a little work then spent a good amount of time on my weekly day-dream session on self employment. Went over my monthly budget again and again trying to figure where to cut a little more and trying to come up with a project count that would bring in enough cash on a monthly basis to cover the remainder of my expenses. Working on two design projects now, which would certainly be enough each month. It's just getting those each month and squashing the fear of "what if I don't". Need a little more in savings and probably need to the sell the car (to get out from that monthly payment) before seriously considering the Dream.

Anyway, will probably work on those projects a bit tonight and catch up on today's unproductivity this weekend. Skies are getting a little grey, hoping I can still get out tomorrow for a ride.

On the trainer…

Just an hour on the trainer this morning. Another long day of work so wanted to get it done early. Beautiful day outside today so went for walk at lunch and ran some errands.

Trying to eat better, and actually cooked dinner tonight. Ground turkey, rice, and black bean chili mix. Good stuff.

Hoping to get in a good 45 minute run tomorrow and long ride Saturday. Hopefully today's weather holds.

TV in, Giro Not???

Oy, what happened to the Giro on OLN. I thought it was going to be daily coverage like previous years, but only weekends. Bummer! Got the tv hooked up for the OLN cycling season and was a little disappointed. Guess I should have done my homework.

30 minute run this evening. A little tough, didn't eat enough during the day.

Still working a bunch but trying to cut it back. Heading out to support Matt at Half Ironman Florida next week and do a Disneyworld family reunion. Hopefully I can finish up a bunch of the projects before then and start a fresh when I get back the following week.

Weather's been crazy up here. Lots of rain. Locals say this is very unusual so that's good. Looking forward to some sunny days though. Have not been cycling nearly as much as I should.

Family Weekend, Sunday Run

Well, Matt and my mother arrived late Thursday afternoon, and I've been showing them aroudn the place since. Moved all Matt's stuff in, went and bought some new beds, a good nights sleep is critical so I upgraded my beat-up twin for a reasonably priced Queen. And, quite honestly, I had the best nights sleep I can remember last night. I usually wake up every few hours, but slept a solid 7 hour block.

Been taking mom to all the open houses we can find up here. Trying to convince her she could retire, buy a much cheaper house up here, and live a better lifestyle.

Matt's already hooked up with the other pros up here, swam with the masters group, rode with Larsen and Martin yesterday and was very happy with the riding up here. I was a little nervous about that because he rides with Chris and a dozen other pro triathletes and cyclists back home so this was going to take a little getting used too. Much smaller group he said, but harder pace.

Took him running this morning. He was gone in about 5 minutes and haven't seen him since :) . I did about 75 minute run. A little tough, didn't eat enough and rainy today, but good to get out.

Also now have food in the fridge and pantries. Matt brought 4 bikes, a rice cooker, and pounds and pounds of brown rice and oatmeal. My diet is going to be well improved.

He also randomly rode with a guy who is opening the only tri shop in Bend this week. So, he may already have a job as well. COuldn't have asked for a smoother moving transition.

very cool…
