Went on a hard trail run this morning. Kept my heart rate pretty high the whole time. Trying to keep up with my brother and my dog. He elected to run with someone who can go more his pace. So I didn't see them much after about 10 minutes in. Good run though!
Yesterday I squeezed in 90 minute ride. Up to Tumalo Falls and back. Actually closer to 80 minutes I think was the final time. About 10 miles up and 10 back down the hill.
About to watch Game 4. Hope it's a good one.

Sitting around watching game three of the NBA Finals. More like fiddling on the computer (working) while the game is on.
Sunday I went and watched Matt partake in a Cat 3-4-5 race. He had to do some cycling races to get his Cycling category license or something like that. Basically he wanted to get a Cat 3 or 2 but everyone has to start at Cat 5. Anyway it was about a 55 mile race and he won on a sprint finish. Fun to watch as they looped around 3 times.
Post the cycling event we went fly-fishing. Tons of trout surfacing for flies falling off the trees. They were hoping everywhere and going after everything except our flies. I'm new to the fly-fishing thing but think I'm going to be hooked (no pun intended). I believe we just were'nt using the right flies. We'll probably go back over the next week or so and give it another try. Got absolutely fried out there all day as I forgot my sunscreen.
Took yesterday off and did a 45 minute easier run today. Legs felt a little heavy from Friday & Saturday's ride, but overall it was a good run.

A little catching up again…
Went out for 3 hours 35 minutes today. Long steady ride out East to Prineville. Good ride, beautiful day. On my goal of 130 for the summer I now have 125 to go. A good start.
Felt a little tired the last 35 minutes or so. Tough bringing it back home.

Took off at about 1:30 to get in a ride before the rain starts coming in. Supposed to have some thunder storms later. Good ride, about 90 minutes. Changed up a little loop I do to add on some time. Headed out to the reservoir. The road is a bit rough, seems there's a seam every 10 yards or so, but nice ride. Pretty much just open farming and ranches. Lots of open fields and horses.
I'd really like to become a stronger cyclist this year so I think I'm going to focus more on the riding this summer. Maybe take off a run day and add a cycle day instead. Been having a hard time with run still so thinking maybe if I just work more on cycling and build leg strength it'll help me with my run.
So maybe 3 days of running and 4 days of cycling. And at least two days with some extended time climbing. I'd also like to have a goal in volume over the next 3 months. Something attainable, realistic, yet somewhat aggressive. I was thinking 2,500 miles by September 10th. However, there's a lot of climbing around here so it might be smarter to shoot for an hourly goal and hope that'll also get me the mileage. Since that's my usual measuring factor when I do my workouts and increase volume by 10% per week - it only makes sense.
So, 130 hours of cycling by September 10th. That's 10 hours per week. Starting today, I have 128.5 hours to go.

So far sticking to my new work/training schedule. Worked 5 hours this morning then went on my ride. Short mid-week ride. Eighty minutes, did the Falls climb. Ended up riding it a little quicker than last week. I need to add a short loop to it to get in a few more miles. Nice beautiful day today, a little chilly this morning but nice for the afternoon ride. Some head winds on the way out but they subsided by the turnaround.
Then back to work post ride and finished up a couple hours ago. A little steak and brown ride for dinner. Diet's been overall a little better with Matt here, although I did get a slice of pizza last night. Still need to work on getting more fruits and vegetables in my diet.

Sunday - 65 minute run. Legs were pretty heavy from Saturday's climb on the bike. Was happy too make it for that long as I could feel the previous days training in each step.
Yesterday was a rest day and a full work day. Project catch up time.
35 minute easy run today to start the week off. A little cold and rainy today, actually hailed on me. Crazy, Hail in June!
Also put together the new logos for the Trifuel apparel

Ran 45 minutes yesterday. Good run, higher HR tempo pace. Felt good to begin, slowed up a bit about 25 minutes in, and then recovered for the last 10-15 coming home.
Today went out on the bike for 3 1/2 hours. Easy Tumalo Loop to start, about an hour. Then climbed out toward Bachelor, climbed out for about 1:45, then took 45 to get back. Good ride, definitely worked me climbing for that long. Not real steep of a climb but long and steady. I'll definitely be stronger for it if I can do that climb each week.
Spent the rest of the day doing chores around the house. Tried to fix a dripping facet in the bath tub and made a complete mess. The knob came off and the water was spitting out like a fire hose against the back of the tub. Water everywhere. Took forever to find the main line to shut off the water. It ended up being out in the front of the house in and I had to dig for the lever that turned it off. A definite fiasco.
Then had to cut back the wild grass and weeds with a weed wacker, that took another hour and a half.
And never did get the leak fixed. Just cleaned up all the water and put it back together. Figure it was a sign that I shouldn't be messing with trying to be a handy man. Maybe I'll give it another go tomorrow.

This is actaully an update of yesterday, forgot to post.
Worked 8-12 then took off at lunch for a 90 minute ride. Headed out to Tumalo Creek. It's a short ride, maybe only 20 miles round trip but 10 of it is a steady climb. So took about an hour to get out there and 30 minutes to get back. Beautiful day, awesome ride. The cool thing about it is it's one long road. So I just take a right 2 blocks for my place and ride straight. No stops, no cars after the first mile because the road dead ends when it reaches the creek (National Forest).
Beautiful bridge and creek at the end and just National Forest. Matt and I will try to headout there and hike this week, find some fishing spots. Beautiful taking a few minutes to watch the water flow and breath in the fresh air. Seems with every ride I do, I just fall in love with this place more. So glad I just picked up and moved out here. Definitely a good decision. Now that Matt is here its better. Good to have a friend/brother around. He seems to really like it. Seems each week he hooks up with another athlete to train with. This week it was Conrad Stoltz, Top Pro Xterra racer. Also tons of physical therapists and massage therapists here that used to be pro cyclists or pro triathletes. I even heard Gerry Garcia, the legendary surfer, moved up here to start building snowboards.
Next is to get some of my friends from back in Norcal to move up here. some of my riding buddies, can't ride with Matt and his group - at least not yet
.
New proposed daily schedule
I made another change to my schedule in an attempt to try and be more consistent with training and My Work. At least until the Sanity Savings Fund is deep enough for me to take a risk.
6:30-8 Trifuel, Breakfast, Stretching/Weights
8-12 Job
12-3 Lunch - Main training session. Bike/Run/Swim.
3-7 Trifuel and AER (Adventure & Endurance Research) projects - my work. Usually this ends up going to bedtime, but I'm going to try to start cutting things off earlier.
Working out of a home office can be tough because I seem to always be on the computer. There's no point of turning off the light and leaving the office like in my past jobs. I need to learn to stick to this type of schedule and just let projects roll to the next workday rather than continually try to finish everything in one long day. I need to get out during the day to take advantage of my surroundings. That is why I moved up here…

Not sure what happened to Spring, very short lived as the weather seemed more like winter. But Summer is here and the suny days have outnumbered the rainy days since being back from Florida - so that's good news.
Feeling pretty much over the flu bug I got after returning from Disney and went on a run this morning. Just 30 minutes, but good to get out again.
Been pretty busy with work, catching up from the missed days last week, so ended up working much of the holiday weekend. Picked up another project, so have about 4 projects/jobs going now, probably too many but hopefully I can finish off one of them by end of week and just run with the other three for the summer.
Picked up the latest GQ, not normally a magazine I read, as you have to flip through 200 pages of ads before getting to any articles, but this issue (aside from having Pitt on it) has 4-5 profiles of people who restarted their lifes mid way through. Basically people who quit the jobs they disliked to start pursuing their passions. One guy quit being a Lawyer to bake cakes, another took 18 months to travel and now sells Rare carpets, another guy attempted a solo traverse to the North Pole last year. Anyway I like finding little stories like those and collecting them for regular re-reading and inspiration. Getting closer to writing my next chapter of the restart. A little more Sanity savings fund and I'll pull the plug.
