Cold, Windy, but Sunny Ride

Well, I finally got out on the bike. Been hampered for the last couple weeks due to rain, snow and bad weather. It was cold when I headed out, 32F. Windy but the sky was clear for the most part and I was able to get in a good, albeit slow, ride. Did a 32 mile loop, followed by a shorter 20 mile loop. Wanted to stay close in case it did start snowing. The second loop felt colder than the first. Most likely due to the wind picking up.

About a mile from home, while riding through town my tire blew. Scared a bunch a people :) Didn’t realize it was the tire itself until I changed tubes and it started protruding through the ripped seam. Pumped it up to a low pressure and coasted out of the saddle to get her home. I had noticed on the second loop that something was a little off with the rear wheel. I thought maybe I loosened a spoke or something. But turned out being the tube trying to make its way out.

Legs heavy now. Gonna sleep well.

Heavy Legged Run…

today. Started out o.k. but then my heart rate climbed and my legs got heavy and tired. Or maybe it was the other way around. It was frustrating, and I’d complain, but it’s my own fault. Didn’t run enough this winter and I’m suffering because of it. I complained about poor running performance last year around this time, and I got my run in shape through the summer, but now have let it slide. Confident I can get it back up, up to the 1/2 marathon comfort, but this year I need to push myself to the full marathon.

I need to look into taking Glucosamine and Chondroitin again. My knees are bothering me and I took it a couple years back and remember feeling improvements in the pain in my knees. Maybe I’ll try the Cytosport Joint Matrix stuff and see how that helps.

Hoping for a good day tomorrow for riding. Was tempted to squeeze in my bike today as it was sunny this morning. Then it started to rain again so opted to play it safe. Didn’t want to get caught if it started snowing again. Weather says partly cloudy tomorrow and sunny on Sunday, so looks like I’ll be able to get a long ride in this weekend. Nice!

Run Day, Blog Day

Wow, my second blog post of the day. I’m on fire :) Well maybe not since the first was a recap of yesterday.

Went for a 45 minute run today. Super windy out here today, but at the I saw the sun. BONUS!

Unleashed the Blogs section on Trifuel and have been getting some great response so far. More than 20 bloggers already on the network. If you’re reading this and I missed you, or you have no idea what I’m talking about -> Trifuel Bloggers is a new section on Trifuel. Shoot me a note if you want to be included.

Looks like this is going to be a quick post. Dog is staring at me, moaning to go out. Until tomorrow…

Blah, Trainer again…

Yesterday’s workout.

The weather was poor again yesterday so i ended up on the trainer again. 75 minutes while watching FA Cup Soccer on FSC. I really dislike the trainer, so uncomfortable and my mind wanders and my form breaks down after about an hour. I need to focus more on structured workouts while on it. Some single legs drills, higher cadence stuff, etc. Something to keep me focused.

Despite being bored it was a good workout. Tried to go harder than Monday’s ride so ended up sweating quite a bit and keep my heart rate at a good level for that 1st hour.

Read BBB comments on sleep and TV watching. I totally agree, I slept better when I didn’t watch television and was all around more productive. I didn’t have it when I first moved up here, but then needed to get it to watch the Tour last summer. Now I have ESPN, FSC, or OLN on all the time. I need to reconsider how necessary it is or at least start curbing my viewing time.

Calling All Bound for IMC

I’ve added a new category to my blog for anything related to my journey to Ironman Canada this year. This is just an intro and a call for other Ironman Canada bound athletes to do the same and drop me a note to add you to my blogroll. By doing this it’ll show up on Trifuel under an Ironman Canada category and I think on Technorati and others as well. I think it’ll be a good way to connect with others doing the race and create a mini support and encouragement type group. I would encourage other bloggers doing other races to do the same. I think you’ll end up hooking up with other athletes with similar goals and maybe you can share your journey with the group.

So, I’m going to Canada this year. I’m a bit (quite a bit) scared of this endeavor. Training didn’t go so well this winter. It’ll be my first Ironman. My brother Chris won last year and brother Matt will join me there this year. We joke that he’ll try to come in first and I’ll probably end up last and we can bookend the race. :) Seriously, it may not be that far off the truth. The marathon has me very worried, I’ve never run further than 13.1 so far and my knees don’t feel so great after 10, so this will be a stretch. But, I need to do it. It’s time to sack up and go for it! Strive, Endurance Life!

As well, I have to keep it real for the rest of the Lieto family. Because Chris is so good on the bike and Matt is showing great promise and potential at the Iron Distance as well, people think I can ride or have done an Ironman. But nope, I’m the average Joe guy who didn’t get the cycling genes (or more realistically hasn’t put in nearly the training time) and spends more time behind a computer than behind aerobars. :)

Anyway, looking forward to preparing for the race and meeting other Trifuelers while I’m there. OHHH CANADA…

A little off today

Not feeling great today. Had a pretty good headache last night and didn’t get much sleep. Not sure if it was because I cut back on the coffee or because I didn’t hydrate enough after yesterday’s bike trainer ride. I did sweat quite a bit being indoors and all. Probably didn’t drink enough afterwards.

So today’s run was kinda blah. Was light headed a good part of the morning but decided to head out for a quick and easy 30 minute run. It was cold and my energy level just wasn’t there.

I think I also need to cut back on staring at my little screen. I spend way too much time on the computer.

I’m also going to start a new category on here for “Ironman Canada”. I just soft launched a new blog aggregation section on Trifuel. The idea is to aggregate members blogs and have one central place to see the most recent posts, to discover new bloggers, to connect with others writing about similar races and goals, so thus “Ironman Canada”. Hopefully others doing and writing about the race with post in a Ironman Canada category when appropriate. Then on Trifuel there will be a mini community (of sorts) of Ironman Canada bloggers. Thats the idea anyhow, hopefully others will see the potential value in that and participate. I think it’ll be cool.

Biking to Soccer

Fox Soccer Channel is my new best friend. At least while the weather is still ride restrictive. Snowed again today so spent 90 minutes on the trainer watching some soccer matches. Was able to get in 60 minutes of running yesterday. It was sunny in the morning and then started dumping snow about 30 minutes after I got back. The weather sure can change quickly here.

Spent the bulk of the day working on Trifuel. Working on a new blog section and updating the log navigation. I need a PC though. IE browser is always different than Safari and Firefox on my mac. Seems everything always breaks on the IE browser. Real pain in the arse. Anyway, I need to go find a PC to view some of the new changes to make sure they look o.k. before launching live.

Time to log off and put the computer away. L8.

Brrr Cold Run

Out for a run this afternoon. Cold and windy here today. About 35F. Run was o.k. heart rate was a little high I think because I was shivering a bit. Did 45 minutes. Hope it clears/warms up a bit tomorrow so I can ride outside. need to pick up mom at the airport at 11:30 so need to geta rid in before hand most likely.

Have a good weekend all….

Trainer Ride and Catchup

Well, trying to get back into blogging. Been very busy lately working on getting logs up (BIG thanks to Roger), playing with a new blogging option (this is it), looking into better service providers as the sites had some issues over the last couple months. This Trifuel.net is on another server so hopefully it can grow independently of Trifuel and traffic and server load on each won’t effect the other. Next up is to try and move Trifuel.com to it’s own dedicated server, currently it shares a dedicated server with a few other sites I host. Anyway that was boring.

Still pursuing the ultimate goal of living the unbound & endurance lifestlye. I actually got a little kcik in the pants a few weeks ago as I got unexpectedly laid off. So now it’s all Trifuel (and thinking througha couple other ideas) for the time being. Been crunching the budget and cutting costs and hoping to make it through the rest of the year and re-evaluate then.

Snowed last night so while I’ve been able to get out on the road to ride over the last few weeks, it was back to the trainer today. Bummer. But my other rides have been good, although my run is suffering. I think I got a little stressed over the winter and put on some LBs (well I know I put on some LBs:(). Trying to shed them now and get ready for Canada. My cycling seems o.k. Was out for 3 hours on Saturday so I’m confident once the weather permits more cycling I’ll be able to ramp it up for the Ironman. My running is tough, I’m feeling the extra LBs in my knees, which have always been poor. Swimming??? Ya, on my list to do :) Seriously just saving up to join the local club w/ pool. Will do that this week.

So that I think catches me up and shares my haps since last I posted. Now time to get back in the grove and start a livin’.
