Quik Post

Missed yesterday and want to try and create a habit of writing in the blog.

Yesterday I ran the River Loop run, about 60 minutes. Decent run. Today I headed out on the bike. Forgot to take any nutrition with me, stupid. Heavy winds and got fried by mile 20. Kept going and put in about 2 hours but didn’t get very far. Slow ride day.

On one section I was going down hill, slightly, against the wind and was only pushing 16-17mph. Coming home on that same section, slight uphill with wind at my back I was cruising at 25mph. Crazy wind. Hope I’m not too fried as I need to put in a long ride tomorrow. Hopefully 3 1/2 to 4 hours.

Remember to bring the calories :)

China Hill

New route today. Found a road that it a gradual climb for about 8 miles. Good, as I can stay seated the whole time and try to crank a higher (lower? I get confused, tougher :) ) gear and really work the legs. Only draw back was it was a little shorter than hoped, all around ride was 32 miles. Took fair amount of time because of the climb (and wind), but was hoping to get in 40 today.

But, when you’re close to home and you have to choose to ride for another 10 miles or turn in, especially on a cold day. You opt to turn in, or at least I do :) . That’s why I usually choose routes that take me far enough out that I’m not tempted at those critical times/mileage. Never loop back in at 30 miles. Twenty mile loops is o.k. because you’re just getting started and it’s easy to keep going, but 30-40 is tempting.

Cold, Windy, but Sunny Ride

Well, I finally got out on the bike. Been hampered for the last couple weeks due to rain, snow and bad weather. It was cold when I headed out, 32F. Windy but the sky was clear for the most part and I was able to get in a good, albeit slow, ride. Did a 32 mile loop, followed by a shorter 20 mile loop. Wanted to stay close in case it did start snowing. The second loop felt colder than the first. Most likely due to the wind picking up.

About a mile from home, while riding through town my tire blew. Scared a bunch a people :) Didn’t realize it was the tire itself until I changed tubes and it started protruding through the ripped seam. Pumped it up to a low pressure and coasted out of the saddle to get her home. I had noticed on the second loop that something was a little off with the rear wheel. I thought maybe I loosened a spoke or something. But turned out being the tube trying to make its way out.

Legs heavy now. Gonna sleep well.

Biking to Soccer

Fox Soccer Channel is my new best friend. At least while the weather is still ride restrictive. Snowed again today so spent 90 minutes on the trainer watching some soccer matches. Was able to get in 60 minutes of running yesterday. It was sunny in the morning and then started dumping snow about 30 minutes after I got back. The weather sure can change quickly here.

Spent the bulk of the day working on Trifuel. Working on a new blog section and updating the log navigation. I need a PC though. IE browser is always different than Safari and Firefox on my mac. Seems everything always breaks on the IE browser. Real pain in the arse. Anyway, I need to go find a PC to view some of the new changes to make sure they look o.k. before launching live.

Time to log off and put the computer away. L8.

Trainer Ride and Catchup

Well, trying to get back into blogging. Been very busy lately working on getting logs up (BIG thanks to Roger), playing with a new blogging option (this is it), looking into better service providers as the sites had some issues over the last couple months. This Trifuel.net is on another server so hopefully it can grow independently of Trifuel and traffic and server load on each won’t effect the other. Next up is to try and move Trifuel.com to it’s own dedicated server, currently it shares a dedicated server with a few other sites I host. Anyway that was boring.

Still pursuing the ultimate goal of living the unbound & endurance lifestlye. I actually got a little kcik in the pants a few weeks ago as I got unexpectedly laid off. So now it’s all Trifuel (and thinking througha couple other ideas) for the time being. Been crunching the budget and cutting costs and hoping to make it through the rest of the year and re-evaluate then.

Snowed last night so while I’ve been able to get out on the road to ride over the last few weeks, it was back to the trainer today. Bummer. But my other rides have been good, although my run is suffering. I think I got a little stressed over the winter and put on some LBs (well I know I put on some LBs:(). Trying to shed them now and get ready for Canada. My cycling seems o.k. Was out for 3 hours on Saturday so I’m confident once the weather permits more cycling I’ll be able to ramp it up for the Ironman. My running is tough, I’m feeling the extra LBs in my knees, which have always been poor. Swimming??? Ya, on my list to do :) Seriously just saving up to join the local club w/ pool. Will do that this week.

So that I think catches me up and shares my haps since last I posted. Now time to get back in the grove and start a livin’.

Lazy Blogger, Mtb Ride

I suck at this blog thing :) . Seems I can never keep up with it!

Today I went on an awesome mountain bike ride. Finally got my bike back after ripping the derallieur (sp?) off the bike a few weeks ago. Started a decent after a long climb and the chain broke, caught the deralliuer and pulled it up and over and into my year wheel. Luckily no damage to the wheel but needed a new chain and replaced the D. Ended up running and coasting the bike homw about 8 miles. Sucked. Turned into a 5 hour ride/duathlon.

So picked it up last night and went out today. Been a bit laxed on riding so was definitely worked on the climbs. The decent however was awesome. Lots of quick turns and pretty technical for the first few miles. Lots of fun, like riding a roller coaster. I laughed all the way down.

BigMatt was with me. He’s getting much better with his mtb skills, just picked it up a few weeks ago when he decided to do Xterra in 2 weeks. Anyway he handles the technical aspect much better, but still has issue with the pebbles :) . This is our second ride together and both times we descend through a technical section only for him to go down hard 20 yards later when there’s nothing but smooth riding. Odd.

I’m heading to Kona on Wednesday to support Chris and hopefully get some good pics for the site. Should be a good race.

Labor Day Ride

Well finished up my 3 day weekend ride block with a 3 hour ride yesterday. Total time on the bike for the 3 days was 10 hours and probably about 155-160 miles. My battery on the cyclometer died and haven't found a store that carries the battery I need.

Overall it was a good weekend of riding, aside from some knee pain on day 2, it was good. My knee felt pretty good during the ride yesterday. A little tender today and quads are a little sore. I'll try to do a 30 minute run today and then take tomorrow off.

Long Ride

Well, got back on the road bike. After getting the chain fixed, today my odometer stopped working. So, now I need to get my odometer and heart rate monitor fixed. Probably just needs fresh batteries.

Went out for about 3 1/2 hours. Two hours out on rolling terrain, then climbed out toward Bachelor for an hour with a 1/2 hour descent. Fried now. Legs are burning. Was supposed to keep it easy, but found some rabbits to chase on the mountain so I kept trying to ride up to people.

Long run tomorrow.

Long Ride

Went for a long ride this morning. Ended doing 4 hours and about 70 miles. Heavy winds to start the day so I headed towards the hills to try to find some cover from the winds. My normal long route heads east which is pretty open to the elements. I did a bit of exploring to find some routes on the west side and ended up putting in about 2 hours on that side before my route ended up taking my back into town.

Then I decided I needed to get the extra 2 hours in, so headed East. Nice ride out as the wind was to my back, but circling around to head back the winds really hampered my pace. I made it, but was pretty exhausted.

Alfafa Market

Went out at about 9:30 this morning for a 2 hour ride. Was going to ride with Matt (attempt to stay on his wheel), but he hurt his foot yesterday and couldn't get his foot in the shoe. So I ended up riding on my own, but it was a good day. Felt good and kept a pretty good pace for the first 30 miles, but started to get a bit fatigued and hot coming back. It's mostly a rolling route, with only a few short steep climbs. Unfortunately they come towards the end and there tore me up. Legs burning and my average speed dropped way off for those last 10 miles.

All-in-all I felt good though, A strong effort and good ride.
